Saxon Royalty. She was born on 2nd September 1870 as an Archduchess of Austria in Salzburg. She was the daughter of Ferdinand IV of Tuscany and his second wife Alicia of Parma, daughter of Duke Charles III and Louise of Berry. Her father was the last reigning Habsburg Grand Duke of Tuscany. She was a great-great-granddaughter of King Charles X of France. On 21 November 1891 she married Prince Friedrich Augustus of Saxony, nephew of King Albert of Saxony, in Vienna. Prince Friedrich was second in line to the throne of Saxony after his father Prince George, younger brother of King Albert. Luise and Friedrich Augustus had a happy marriage and seven children. She was very popular not just with the people of Saxony but also with King Albert. He was fond of her. Sadly King Albert died in 1902. His less than popular younger brother became King Georg. He had an intense and irrational dislike of Crown Princess Luise. In this he was supported by his Interior Minister, Georg von Metzsch. King Georg's unpopular daughter, Princess Mathilde also had a jealous hatred of her popular sister-in-law. Such was his hatred of Luise that King Georg threatened to send his daughter-in-law to Sonnenstein Asylum. As a result, Luise, pregnant with her last child by Friedrich Augutus, fled from Saxony on 9th December 1902 with her brother Leopold to Austria. Using his medieval prerogatives, King Georg ordered a civil divorce between Luise and Friedrich Augustus, without the consent of his son, on 11 February 1903. Sadly Friedrich Augustus did not have the moral strength or courage to stand up to his overbearing father. It is interesting to note that in the eyes of the Roman Catholic Church, Friedrich Augustus and Luise remained married. Neither Kaiser Franz Josef or Luise's father recognised the Saxon divorce as they stated that no Habsburg was ever married in a civil ceremony and that the divorce was clearly in contravention of the marriage treaty. After the civil divorce, Luise was no longer Crown Princess of Saxony. She gave birth to her last child from the marriage in exile. Her father granted her the title of Countess of Montignoso. Friedrich Augustus became King Friedrich Augustus III on 15 October 1904. She returned to Dresden on 21st December 1904 in the hope of seeing her children and former husband again. In this she was frustrated by the Dresden Police. She was however warmly welcomed by the people. This disturbed the authorities immensely and she was forced to leave. After sad and protracted negotiations she sent her youngest child to Dresden. King Friedrich Augustus III permitted her to see their children again in October 1906 in the Saxon Embassy in Munich. On 25 September 1907 she married the musician Enrico Toselli in London. This marriage estranged her from her parents and the Austrian court as her marriage with Friedrich Augustus III had not been annulled by the Vatican. She and Toselli had one child in 1908 but separated not long after. They were divorced five years later. King Friedrich Augustus III was deposed in 1918 and died in 1932. He never remarried. The former Crown Princess Luise of Saxony died in Brussels on 23rd March 1947. Her urn is in the Erlöserkirche, Sigmaringen in Germany.

∼Crown Princess Luise of Saxony was born Luise of Tuscany, a Hapsburg Archduess in Salzburg on 2nd September 1870. In 1890 she married the Crown Prince of Saxony, later King Friedrich August III of Saxony. Their marriage was a happy one which produced six children. Luise was extremely popular with the people of Saxony. She found the narrow court etiquette in Dresden difficult to deal with. Her father-in-law, later King Georg I of Saxony and his daughter, Princess Mathilde of Saxony took an intense dislike of Luise. King Georg became King in 1902. Using his medieval prerogative and with the backing of his Interior Minister, George von Mentsch, King Georg divorced Luise from his son, without his son's consent, on 11th February 1903. Luise having good reason to fear her father-in-law had fled Dresden. King Georg had threatened to have her incarcerated in a Nunnery. Luise gave birth to her last child the following year. On 15th October 1904, Friedrich August became King of Saxony. King Friedrich August had promised his father that he would not see Luise again. This displayed his personal weakness. Luise returned to Dresden on 21st December 1904 hoping to see her children again. The Dresden Police prevented her from seeing them. Her father gave her the title of Countess Montignoso. In 1907, Luise married the composer Enrico Toselli with whom she had a son. The marriage did not work out and she separated in 1908. She died in 1947 in obscurity in Brussels. She should have been Queen of Saxony. King Friedrich August III never married again and was deposed in November 1918 and died in 1932.
