Thomas Francis Bowler was born about 1825 in Wythe County, Virginia to Henry H Bowler and Eliza Sproul. His brother Henry Hade Bowler was born in the same place about 1827. At still a young age his family moved to Missouri. When his father died is unknown. His mother married Ashley Duncan in 1832 in Howard County, Missouri. Thomas was involved with trade to New Mexico and lived in Santa Fe sometime before 1850. He married Maria Refugio de Alta Gracia Newman and had 6 children. They left Santa Fe in 1860 and in 1864 went to Montana. Some years later they moved to San Diego California where Thomas died in 1871.
