Leo V. Dirkman, age 84, formerly of Francis Creek, died on Wednesday evening, Nov. 4, 2009, at St. Mary's at Felician Village, Manitowoc.

Leo was born on April 7, 1925, in the town of Kossuth, son of the late John and Caroline (Zimmer) Dirkman. He served in the U.S. Army from 1943 to 1946. On Sept. 8, 1948, Leo married the former Marcella Kerscher at St. Anne Catholic Church in Francis Creek. He was employed as an auto mechanic at Erdman Ford-Lincoln-Mercury of Manitowoc. Leo was a member of St. Anne Catholic Church and Kubale- O'Connell VFW Post No. 6179 of Kellnersville which he served in the past as post commander. He enjoyed bowling and playing dartball.

Survivors include his wife: Marcella Dirkman, Manitowoc; two sons and daughters-in-law; Robert and Anne Dirkman, Francis Creek; Michael and Patrice Dirkman, Whitelaw; three grandchildren: Kelly and Jesse Dirkman of Francis Creek; Srgt. First Class Nathan (Katte) Dirkman, Waynesville, Mo.; three great-grandchildren: Korbin Feudner, Linus, and Eli Dirkman; three sisters and three brothers-in-law: Dorothy (Norman) Wachholz, Manitowoc; Leonard Schleis, Menchalville; Delores "Sunny" Dirkman, Green Bay; Marjorie (Robert) Clingan, Northbrook, Ill.; two sisters-in-law and one brother-in-law: Marion Porubcansky, Francis Creek; June (Paul) Freimuth, Kellnersville. Nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends also survive. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Caroline Dirkman; one sister: Luella Schleis; his father-in-law and mother-in-law: Frank and Emma Kerscher; one sister-in-law and two brothers-in-law: Silvia (Albert) Bolzenthal; Joe Porubcansky.

Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 9, 2009, at St. Anne Catholic Church, Francis Creek. The Rev. Paul Paider and Rev. Gerald Foley will concelebrate the Mass of Christian Burial with burial to follow in the parish cemetery.

Military graveside services will be accorded by Kubale-O'Connell VFW Post No. 6179 of Kellnersville. Relatives and friends may call on Sunday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Reinbold & Pfeffer Family Funeral Home in Kellnersville. Kubale-O'Connel VFW Post No. 6179 will conduct a veteran's prayer service at 7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Visitation will continue on Monday at the church from 10:30 a.m. until the time of Mass at 11:30 a.m.

The family would like to thank all the caregivers at St. Mary's at Felician Village and offer a special thank you to Mary Graczyk for all your care and help the past years.
