William L. Ewen, 83, of 208 Packer Drive, Francis Creek, died Tuesday morning, January 17, at Holy Family Hospital, Manitowoc.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Friday at Saur Funeral Home, Kellnersville, and 10:30 a.m. at St. Anne Catholic Church, Francis Creek. The Rev. Donald Schneider and Rev. John Haen will officiate the Mass of Resurrection with burial in the parish cemetery.
Mr. Ewen was born January 19, 1900, at Francis Creek, son of the late John and Mary Kerscher Ewen. He married the former Clara Kochan on July 13, 1927, at St. Boniface Catholic Church, Manitowoc. He was a lifelong resident of Francis Creek. Mr. Ewen started his banking career in 1922 at Francis Creek State Bank and received a standard certificate from American Institute of Banking. He served as president of Francis Creek State Bank, retiring in 1967. Mr. Ewen was president of Manitowoc County Bankers Association in 1945. He was presently serving on the advisory board of the Francis Creek office of the First National Bank of Manitowoc. He was a charter member of the Francis Creek Lions Club, serving as president in 1966 and serving as secretary of the club for 13 years. He was given a service award in appreciation to the club in June 1983. Mr. Ewen was past treasurer of the Francis Creek Fire Department, serving in the capacity for 37 years. He was a recipient of an award for that service to the department in 1983. Mr. Ewen was a lifelong member of St. Anne Congregation serving in many capacities within the church. He was a 50 year member of the Catholic Knight Branch No. 86 of Francis Creek and a member of Francis Creek-Rockwood Senior Citizens.
Survivors include his wife, Clara; three sons and daughters-in-law, Norbert and LaVerne Ewen of Francis Creek, Art and Carl Ewen of Francis Creek, and Robert and Ann Ewen of Conyers, Georgia; 12 grandchildren, three great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. He was preceded in death by a brother, Edwin and a sister, Rose.
Friends may call at Saur Funeral Home, Kellnersville, from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday evening, and Friday until the hour of service. Francis Creek Lions Club will meet at the funeral home at 7 p.m. A prayer service will be held at 7:30 p.m. by Father Schneider.
