DIES AFTER A LONG ILLNESS
Carl Gruber, Retired Kossuth Farmer, Succumbs
Carl Gruber, 81, retired town of Kossuth farmer, died Saturday at the home of his son Anton, Francis Creek. Death followed a lengthy illness.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday morning at 10 o’clock from the St. Ann’s Catholic church at Francis Creek. Burial will be in the adjoining cemetery. The body will lie at the Hussar Funeral Home, Kellnersville, until time of the services.
Born in Germany
Born in Germany March 31, 1834, Mr. Gruber came to America in 1857 with his parents. The family came immediately in Wisconsin and settled in Manitowoc county at the town of Kossuth. In 1883 Mr. Gruber bought a farm near his father’s homestead, where he has lived ever since, selling the farm to his son Anton in the fall of 1930. He was married to Mary Korba on November 10, 1885. She survives.
In the early 80’s Mr. Gruber started to make feed baskets of black ash which proved so popular and useful that other farmers wanted them. For the past fifty years, he has made them during the winter months.
Widow Survives
Survivors besides his widow include two daughters, Mrs. Frances Putz and Marie, both of Manitowoc, two sons, Anton on the home farm and Joseph of Rockwood, and a brother, Joseph, of Manitowoc.
