Mary Neil Cornwell
“I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. From now on there is reserved for me the crown of righteousness.” Mary N. Cornwell, 67, was called to heaven after a long fight with cancer on December 2, 2015 at her home with the family at her side. Mary was born October 3, 1948 in Los Alamos, New Mexico. She was preceded in death by her parents Neil and Margaret Jones. Mary was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and she loved her family with her whole heart. Her family was first and foremost the joy of her life. Mary worked for National State Bank in Metropolis. She also worked for City National Bank in Metropolis as an assistant vice president and loan officer until her retirement. Mary attended Lutheran Church of the Cross in which she helped as a financial officer for years. Her church meant the world to her and the people of the church were her best friends and support during her illness. Mary is survived by her husband of 47 years, Charles Cornwell of Metropolis. Two sons, Shane Cornwell and wife Stacey of Metropolis. Bryan Neil Cornwell and wife Mary Ann of Biloxi, Mississippi. Two grandsons, Landon Cornwell of Metropolis, McKenzie Saltsman of Paducah, and one granddaughter, Gracie Sullivan of Metropolis. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, December 5th at 2 p.m. at the Lutheran Church of the Cross. Pastor David Deem will officiate. Burial will follow in the Metropolis Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be held on Saturday, December 5th from 11 a.m. until the funeral hour at the church. The family requests no flowers and that any expressions of sympathy may be made in the form of contributions to the Pavilion Fund at the Lutheran Church of the Cross, 2601 North Avenue, Metropolis, Illinois 62960.
