(1922 - 2010)

Melvin A. Herrmann, age 87, formerly of 709 Manitou St., Manitowoc, died peacefully on Wednesday, Aug. 11, 2010, at Shady Lane Nursing Care Center in Manitowoc.

Melvin was born on Oct. 19, 1922, in the town of Kossuth, son of the late Adam and Rose (Dirkman) Herrmann. He married the former Florence Lensmeyer on Nov. 6, 1948, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Kellnersville. Melvin retired from Hamilton Industries in 1987. He was a member of St. Anne Catholic Church in Francis Creek and the Catholic Knights. Melvin enjoyed woodworking.

Survivors include his wife of 52 years: Florence Hermann, Manitowoc; six children and their spouses: Allan (Susan ) Herrmann, Whitelaw; Kenneth Herrmann, Whitelaw; JoAnn (Shawn) Seefeldt, Manitowoc; Joyce Herrmann and Kevin Osterloth, Manitowoc; Jean (Jeffery) Braunel, Manitowoc; Judy Skrepenski and special friend Dave Laabs, Manitowoc; seven grandchildren: Brad (Tabitha) Seefeldt; Matthew (Heidi) Herrmann; Christopher Kalista; John Herrmann: Patrick Herrmann; Brittany Braunel; Brianna Braunel; great-granddaughter, Taliah. Nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends also survive.

Melvin was preceded in death by his parents: Adam and Rose; one sister: Arlene Sydow; three sisters-in-law and seven brothers-in-law.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 14, 2010, at St. Anne Catholic Church in Francis Creek. The Rev. Paul Paider will celebrate the Mass of Christian Burial with burial to follow at St. Anne Parish Cemetery. Relatives and friends may call on Friday at the Reinbold & Pfeffer Family Funeral Home, 1124 Main St., Kellnersville, from 5 to 8 p.m. A prayer service will be held at 7:45 p.m. Visitation will continue at the church on Saturday from 9 a.m. until the time of Mass at 10 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established in Melvin's name.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Shady Lane Nursing Care Center and Laurel Grove. Their love and care went above and beyond what anyone could ask for. Dad always had a smile on his face when the girls walked in his room. They made his journey an enjoyable one!
