John (Jack) Hessel, age 62, of 423 Laurel Drive, Francis Creek, passed away unexpectedly Tuesday, May 19, 1998, at his residence.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, May 22, 1998, at St. Anne Catholic Church, Francis Creek. Rev. Theodore Hendricks will officiate. Burial will be in the St. Anne Catholic Church Cemetery.
Jack was born August 21, 1935, in Manitowoc, son of Paul and Theckla (Jost) Hessel, and has been a lifelong area resident. Jack attended St. Anne Elementary School, and graduated from Washington High School in Two Rivers with the Class of 1954. He married the former Doris Schetter May 9, 1959, at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Mishicot. Jack was employed by Hessel Trucking, Kornely Dairy, and for the last 20 years at Schneider Transport, retiring January 30, 1998 . He was a member of St. Anne Catholic Church in Francis Creek and the Francis Creek Sportsmen's Club. Jack enjoyed camping, hunting, fishing, and playing cards. He was an avid Packer fan.
Survivors include his loving wife, Doris; twin sons and one daughter-in-law, Mike and Lisa Hessel, Manitowoc, and Mark Hessel, Francis Creek; five grandchildren, Laura, Sarah, Josh, Jenna, and Samantha; his mother, Theckla Hessel, Green Bay; one brother, Zeke Hessel, Wausau; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Mary and Jim Smejkal, wild Rose, and Carol and Tom Holberg, Milwaukee; brothers- and sisters-in-law, Marge and Ralph Wilfert, Sheboygan, Herbert Schetter, Mishicot, Gerald and Rosemary Schetter, Two Rivers, Betty and Bill Saunders, Two Rivers; nieces, nephews, and many special camping friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Paul Hessel; one sister-in-law, Margaret Schetter; and his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Marie and Ray Schetter.
Friends may call Friday at St. Anne Catholic Church, Francis Creek, from 9:30 a.m. until the time of services at 11 a.m. There will be no Thursday evening visitation.
The Lambert Funeral Home, Mishicot, is assisting the family with funeral arrangements.
Jack was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and special friend and will be sadly missed by all who knew him.
