Robert G. Hessel, age 66, of 7808 County Trunk R, Manitowoc, died unexpectedly Wednesday evening, July 3, 2002 at Froedtert Memorial Lutheran Hospital in Wauwatosa, as a result of a traffic accident.

Funeral services will be Monday, July 8, 2002 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Anne Catholic Church, Francis Creek. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by the Rev. Ted Hendricks, with burial to follow in the parish cemetery. Military graveside services will be accorded by Kubale-O'Connell VFW Post #6179 of Cato.

Robert was born July 22, 1935, in Manitowoc County, son of the late Orval and Sylvia Stedl Hessel. He grew up in the Francis Creek area, attending St. Anne Grade School and graduated from Mishicot High School with the class of 1953. Robert joined the U.S. Navy in 1954 and served until 1958. He married Irene M. Mleziva on June 16, 1962 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Kellnersville. Robert worked at Fisher Hamilton, Two Rivers, from 1961 until 1981 and farmed from 1973 until his retirement in 1998. Presently, Robert was working part-time for the Reedsville Co-op. He was a member of St. Anne Catholic Church and was serving on the finance committee. He was a member of the Rockwood and Francis Creek Fire Departments. Robert was an avid fan of the Chicago Cubs and enjoyed playing sheepshead.

Survivors include his wife: Irene; children include: Robert L. and Karie Hessel, Two Rivers; Laurie and Steve Braun, Manitowoc; Sue and Paul Wilberding, Sun Prairie; Vickie and Ron Bauer, Two Rivers; grandchildren: Eric and Joshua Wilberding; Lucas Bauer; step grandchildren: Allyse and Nick Bauer; one brother: Gary Hessel, Francis Creek; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Jim and Colleen Mleziva, rural Two Rivers; and Marge and Pat O'Leary, Denmark. Nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends also survive. He was preceded in death by two infant children and his parents.

Relatives and friends may call on Sunday, July 7, 2002 at the Reinbold & Pfeffer Family Funeral Home-Kellnersville, from 4 to 8 p.m. and on Monday, July 8, 2002 at St. Anne Catholic Church from 9 until the time of service at 10:30 a.m.
