Martin "Marty" Katzka, 89, of 303 Oakwood Dr., Francis Creek, died early Sunday morning, Dec. 3, 2006, at the River's Bend Health and Rehabilitation Center, Manitowoc.

Marty was born Oct. 9, 1917, in the town of Brazeau, Oconto County, son of the late Martin and Mary Katzka. He grew up in Oconto County and was a 1935 graduate of Coleman High School. On Aug. 16, 1941, Marty was married to June M. Arkens at Klondike. The couple moved to Green Bay in 1942 where Marty operated a Standard Service Station until 1949. In 1949, the couple moved to Francis Creek where Marty owned and operated Marty's Chevrolet until he closed the business in 1964. He then sold automobiles for the Lauson Chevrolet Garage in Manitowoc until his retirement in 1983. In 1977 Marty and June purchased and operated the Katzka's Trailer Park at White Potato Lake and selling the trailer park in 1996 and moving back to Francis Creek in 2001. The couple spent most of their winters in retirement in either Florida or Arizona. In the past Marty enjoyed downhill skiing and hunting, barbershop singing, attending basketball games, car racing, and watching the Green Bay Packers. He was a charter member and past member of the Francis Creek Lions Club, past member of the Francis Creek Sportsman Club, past member of the Catholic Knights and St. Anne Catholic Church. He had a special love for all of his grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife, seven children, 21 grandchildren; 29 great grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; one brother and sister-in-law: Francis (Edna) Katzka of Green Bay; two sisters-in-law and one brother-in-law: Janet (Kenneth) Weger of Francis Creek; Geraldine "Jerry" Arkens of Francis Creek; his special dog, Heidi; nieces, nephews other relatives and friends survive. He was preceded in death by one grandson: Stevie Hutterer; one son-in-law: Ralph Hassemer; one brother-in-law: Merle "Bud" Arkens; his father-in-law and mother-in-law: Raymond & Claire Arkens; two brothers and seven sisters.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 6, 2006, at St. Anne Catholic Church in Francis Creek. The Rev. Paul Paider will celebrate the Mass of Christian Burial with burial to follow in the parish cemetery. Relatives and friends may call at the Reinbold & Pfeffer Family Funeral Home of Kellnersville on Tuesday from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. and on Wednesday at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of services at 11 a.m. There will be a parish prayer service held at the funeral home on Tuesday evening at 6 p.m. led by Fr. Paider.
