JoAnn Tate was left dead, and her two young daughters were left badly injured after a vicious sexual assault at their home in St. Louis in April 1982. The following year Rodney Lincoln, an old acquaintance of Tate, was convicted of the crime and sentenced to life for manslaughter.
Lincoln, however, was innocent of the murder and spent 34 years in prison before the State of Missouri finally agreed with him. In 2017 at the age of 72, he finally walked free after the Governor granted clemency.
The alternate suspect of the murder and assaults was serial killer Tommy Lyn Sells.
Orginal news clipping reported her name to be Jo Ann Parris.
