MELVIN KIRT
(1927 - 2007)

Melvin A. Kirt age 80, formerly of 8302 Reifs Mills Road, and since 1999, at 421 Forest Home Drive, Francis Creek, died Thursday afternoon, June 15, 2007, at St. Vincent Hospital in Green Bay.

Melvin was born May 9, 1927, in the town of Kossuth, son of the late Adolph and Lucy Hartl Kirt. He attended the Palm Grove rural school. On June 5, 1951, he married the former Florence J. Kostechka at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Reedsville. He served in the U.S. Army from 1952-1954 stationed in Germany for eighteen months.
Melvin was employed as a milk hauler for Bolle Trucking and Manitowoc Farmco before taking over the "Kirt Family Farm" in 1955. He was given the Century Farm Award for continuous family ownership in 1983. Randy, David and Robert now own the farm. They are the fifth generation to own the "Kirt Family Farm." Melvin retired from milking in 1989. In 1999, Melvin and Florence moved to Francis Creek.

Melvin was a member of St. Anne Catholic Church, a former usher at St. Anne Church, and a former volunteer usher at the Capitol Civic Center. Melvin enjoyed old time music as a member of "The Love to Dance Club."

Survivors include his wife of 56 years: Florence of Francis Creek; his nine children and their spouses include: Kathy (Dan) Graves of Sheboygan; Kristine (Phil) Herman of Manitowoc; Richard (Jane) Kirt of Francis Creek; Randy (Lynn) Kirt of rural Manitowoc; Mary (Scott) Skinkis of rural Brillion; Melanie (Steve) Kirchman of Green Bay; Daniel (Faye) Kirt of Manitowoc; David (Sue) Kirt of Green Bay; Robert (Sharon) Kirt of rural Manitowoc; 19 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two sisters and brothers-in-law: Loretta (Kenneth) Ansorge of Manitowoc; Florence (Eugene) Svatek of Branch; six sisters-in-law and two brothers-in-law: Evelyn Brandl of Manitowoc; Marcella Lemberger of Manitowoc; Marie (Tom) Domek of Brooksville, Fla.; Donna (Norbert) Hennessey of Whitelaw; Arlene Kostechka of Green Bay; Margie Kostechka of Mishicot; nieces, nephews other relatives and friends survive. He was preceded in death by one sister, Evelyn Kirt.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 20, at St. Anne Catholic Church in Francis Creek. The Rev. Paul Paider will celebrate the Mass of Christian Burial with burial to follow in the parish cemetery.

Relatives and friends may call at the Reinbold & Pfeffer Family Funeral Home of Kellnersville on Tuesday from 4 to 8 p.m. and on Wednesday at the church from 9:30 until 10:30 a.m. The St. Augustine Rosary group will pray the Rosary at 7:45 p.m. Tuesday evening at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations would be appreciated for St. Anne Catholic Church, the Manitowoc Historical Society, the Capitol Civic Center or the charity of your choice.
