Blanche (Shimon) Kornely, age 97, of 124 Cherry Avenue, Francis Creek, died early Friday morning, Dec. 16, 2011, at her residence.

Blanche was born on Oct. 28, 1914, in New Denmark, daughter of Frank and Rose (Hynek) Shimon. Blanche graduated from Manitowoc Lincoln High School with the Class of 1932 and from Manitowoc County Normal in 1933. She married Clarence "Butch" Kornely on June 21, 1947, at Holy Innocents Catholic Church in Manitowoc. He preceded her in death on Aug. 1, 1973. Blanche continued her education in Milwaukee, Stevens Point, Oshkosh, the Wisconsin University Extension and Holy Family College. She taught schools in Franklin, Brockville, Kellnersville, Kiel, Rockwood and St. Anne's in Francis Creek. She was a member of St. Anne Catholic Church and its Altar Society. Blanche served as Clerk of the Village of Francis Creek and secretary and treasurer of the Catholic Knights Branch #86 for 25 years. She was a member of the Francis Creek-Rockwood Senior Citizens and the Domino Ladies. Blanche enjoyed bird watching and was known for her green thumb in taking care of her plants. 

She is survived by three sons and one daughter-in-law: Charles (Betty) Kornely, Boxford, Mass.; Peter Kornely, Manitowoc; Steven Kornely, Wild Rose; eight grandchildren: Rose (Andy) Lasek, Gretchen (Adam) Spear, Brianna Kurth and her fiance, Josh Trainor, Christina Kornely, Margaret (Ryan) Marquardt, Elizabeth Kornely, Jacob Kornely and Lance Cpl. Seth Kornely; five great-grandsons: Evan Spear, Michael Spear, Caleb Kurth, Thomas Marquardt and Calvin Marquardt; one sister: Helen Connolly, Neenah; two brothers and three sisters-in-law: Edwin (Irene) Shimon, Whitelaw; Clarence (Donna) Shimon, Manitowoc; Katherine Kornely, Manitowoc; and special friend: Mary Kornely, Green Bay. Nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends also survive. She was preceded in death by her parents: Frank and Rose Shimon; her husband: Clarence "Butch" Kornely; one brother: Victor Shimon; and one sister: Viola Shimon.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 20, 2011, at St. Anne Catholic Church in Francis Creek. The Rev. John Becker will celebrate the Mass of Christian Burial with burial to follow in the parish cemetery. Relatives and friends may call at the church on Tuesday from 9 a.m. until the time of Mass at 11 a.m.
