Joseph J. Kvitek Sr., age 78, a resident of the Melnik area, passed away Monday, March 15, 2004, with his wife, Germaine, and daughter, Anne Kolhbeck, at his side at Holy Family Memorial Medical Center.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 20, 2004 at St. James Catholic Church in Cooperstown with the Rev. Ron Colombo officiating, with burial to follow in the St. Anne Catholic Church Cemetery, Francis Creek.

He was born in the town of Cooperstown, to the late Joseph and Mary Kubsch Kvitek on April 8, 1925. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and was in the Naval Reserves. He then worked at the Manitowoc Engineering Co. for 39 years, retiring in April of 1990. On Nov. 6, 1951, he married the former Germaine Muench.

She survives him along with three children and two sons-in-law: Mary and Keith Kania, Merrill; Joseph E. Kvitek, Melnik, and his special friend Phillis Ripley, DePere; Anne and Glenn Kolhbeck of Fisherville Road. He is further survived by five grandchildren, and by one brother, John Kvitek, Denmark. He was also preceded in death by one brother, Clarence Kvitek, who passed away in January of this year; two sisters, Agnes Krajnik, Alice Denor Shedivey, and by a sister-in-law, Marleen Kvitek.

Relatives and friends may call after 10 a.m. on Saturday at St. James Catholic Church in Cooperstown until the time of service at 11 a.m. There will be no Friday evening visitation.

The Lambert-Eckert Funeral Home of Mishicot is assisting the Kvitek family with funeral arrangements.
