(1851 - 1865)
From the files of the Pilot – Fifty Years Ago (1865)
Melancholy and Fatal Accident
A very melancholy and sudden death took place in the Town of Kossuth the 4th, about 10 o’clock on that day. Miss Anna Pankratz, daughter of Mr. Geo. Pankratz, of that town, was killed by lightning, while sitting in her room. She lived only long enough to utter two or three words. No other person was injured.
It is a singular coincidence that at ten o’clock on the same morning, the residence of Mr. Geo. Pankratz, in this Village, brother of the deceased, was struck by lightning – the electric fluid doing no other damage then shattering and displacing the chimney and stovepipe.
The parents of the deceased, who are highly respected people, have the hearty sympathy of the neighbors in their tribulations.
