JOSEPH SLADKY
(1852 - 1938)

Joseph Sladky, Sr., 86 (photo), died Monday morning at 10 o'clock at his home at Francis Creek.

He was born in Bohemia May 15, 1852 and came to the United States with his parents when he was three years old. The family settled at Kossuth. Mr. Sladky married Anna Krall Nov. 24, 1878 and the couple lived on a farm two miles west of Francis Creek until 20 years ago when they retired and moved to Francis Creek. A son, Joseph Jr., now operates the farm.

The Sladkys celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary Oct. 31, 1938. Three years ago Mr. Sladky underwent amputation of his left leg as the result of an infection but he refused to become an invalid and continued with his chores which included chopping wood—supported by a chair.

Mr. Sladky is survived by his wife and five children, Mrs. Joseph Dworsak, Mrs. Joseph Peroutka, Mrs. Joseph Shupita, Joseph Jr., and Edward, all of Kossuth, nine grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Thursday at 10:30 a.m. from the residence at Francis Creek and at St. Ann's Catholic church with burial in the adjoining cemetery. Grandsons of the deceased will be pallbearers.

The body will be removed to the residence Wednesday afternoon.
