Howard enlisted into the Army at age 17 with the consent of his parents.
He was a Private First Class during the Korean War, as a Light Weapons Infantryman fighting in the 24th Division, and was Seriously Wounded in Action.
He was on a scouting mission and took three bullets to right leg and was awarded the “Purple Heart” for combat duty. He was eventually returned to Duty FECOM (Far East Command)
