Jerome E. "Jerry" Dietrich, age 79, of 13851 County Hwy. JJ, Clarks Mills, died peacefully on Thursday morning, Nov. 18, 2010, at his residence, surrounded by his loving family.
Jerry was born June 27, 1931, in the town of Cato, a son of the late Arthur and Clara (Bogenschutz) Dietrich. He attended St. Mary's Catholic Grade School in Clarks Mills, and entered the U.S. Army on Jan. 16, 1952. Jerry served his country in the Korean War and was honorably discharged from service on Oct. 20, 1953. On June 28, 1952, he married Dolores Sauer at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Kellnersville. Jerry worked as a sheet metal worker first at Reedsville Sheet Metal for Preston Jones before accepting a job with August Winters & Sons of Appleton. He worked for the company for many years, and retired as a project manager. He was also a member of the Sheet Metal Workers Union No. 18. Jerry was a lifetime member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Clarks Mills and a longtime member of the adult choir. In his retirement years, Jerry spent countless hours volunteering around the church and school and will be greatly missed. He was a member of the Holy Name Society; and the Serra Club of Manitowoc. He enjoyed deer hunting up north with family and friends, and fishing at his cottage with his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Dolores; his five children: Diane and Dale Preston of Cato, Mike and Marcie Dietrich of Newton, Pat and Debbie Dietrich of Cato, Lois and Dave Hallet of New Franken, Linda and Randy Hablewitz of Manitowoc; eleven grandchildren: Danielle and Jimmy Bodart; Travis Preston and fiancé Amber Kaufmann; John and Jenny Dietrich, Ross and Mandi Dietrich, Jeremiah and Michaelia Dietrich, Dylan Dietrich and friend, Cassandra Hieber, Jamie and James Deal, Charles Jerome and Lee Ann Hannan, Alison Hablewitz, Adam and Sara Hablewitz, and Alexis Hablewitz; twelve great-grandchildren: Isabella and Bryanna Bodart; Morgan Dietrich; Jaymasen Dietrich; Brogan, Brady and Aidan Deal; Faith, Ashley Ann and Charles Jerome Jr. Hannan; and Masen and Marshall Hablewitz. He is further survived by three brothers and one sister: JoAnn Eiles, Maple Grove; Art (Betty) Dietrich, Leo (Claire) Dietrich, all of Whitelaw, John (Judy) Dietrich of Cato; two sisters-in-law and a brother-in-law: Joan Dietrich, Reedsville, Al
Hoffman, Kelly Lake, and Marlene (Wayne) White of Green Bay; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers: Robert, Charlie and Larry Dietrich; three sisters: Baby Lois Ann, Sister Lois Ann and Dorothy Hoffman; a sister-in law and a brother-in-law: LeRoy Eiles, Grace (John) Schmidt; and his father-in-law and mother-in-law: Charles and Julia Sauer.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Nov. 22, 2010, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Clarks Mills. Concelebrating the Mass of Christian Burial will be a nephew and godchild, the Rev. Bill Hoffman, Rev. Richard Klingeisen, and Rev. Dave Zimmerman, with burial to follow in St. Mary's Cemetery, Clarks Mills.
The family will greet relatives and friends at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Clarks Mills, from 4 to 8 p m. on Sunday evening. A parish prayer service will be held at 7:30 p.m., led by Deacon Tom Koch. Visitation will continue after 9 a.m. Monday morning at the church until the time of Mass at 10:30 a.m.
