On April 28, 1917, Albert enlisted in the Naval Coast Defense Reserve. A few months later, on October 2, Albert was called for duty and was stationed in the 4th Naval District, which was located at the League Island Navy Yard in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Albert attained the rank of 2nd Class Seaman prior to discharge. After returning home he worked as a machinist in a factory. He was discharged from the Naval Coast Defense Reserve on April 29, 1921.
Albert married Sarah (Rowland) Poynton September 14, 1922 in Luzerne County, Pennsylvania. The couple had two children: John Thomas Poynton and Tydfil Ann Poynton. Albert and his family lived at 571 ½ Carey Ave and 89 Oak Street Wilkes Barre, Pennsylvania. Between 1923 and 1924, Albert worked as an auto mechanic at Zenke Motor Car Company. In 1925, Albert was working for the East Boston Coal Company.
Albert died due to a fractured skull received on a scraper line in the East Boston coal mine in Pringle, Pennsylvania on Mar 11, 1925. Albert's coworker, Howell Jones, was also killed in this accident.
