Actor. His best known and most popular role was the villain known as 'The Tall Man' in the "Phantasm" horror film series. Born Lawrence Rory Guy, he moved to California during his teen years and studied acting at the University of Southern California, where he was mentored by William C. de Mille. He was later trained by Stella Adler and began a lengthy career on stage which included his portrayal of Abraham Lincoln. At the stature of 6 feet, 4 inches he was very suitable for the part. For a period, he wrote liner notes for numerous record albums by a wide range of artists including Frank Sinatra, The Beatles, Arthur Rubinstein and Itzhak Perlman. Scrimm made his motion picture debut in the horror film "Sweet Kill" (1972) and appeared in a string of films and TV programs prior to his signature role as the "Tall Man" in "Phantasm" (1979). Additionally, he was known to TV audiences for his recurring role of 'Calvin McCullough' in the series "Alias" (2001 to 2005). At the time of his death, he just completed work on the final installment of the "Phantasm" series "Phantasm: Ravager."
