Retired from his General Practice as a Medical Doctor in Lumberton, Lamar County, Mississippi and moved to Hidalgo County, Texas and had a farm there until his death in 1949. His wife Olivia lived in Corpus Christi after his death and died there in 1969. They had three sons, Robert Jr.,John H. and George Walton Thompson.
