Said about her father:
Andrew Charles Elliott is interred in the Ross Bay Cemetery in Victoria, British Columbia. His obituary in Amor de Cosmos' Victoria Colonist newspaper read:
Andrew Charles Elliott (June 22, 1829 – April 9, 1889) was a British Columbian politician and jurist.
'He administered justice with a fearless hand and soon had discordant elements well in check. He was a genial, whole-souled gentleman of generous impulses and possessed the highest kind of honor. He was a brave man.'
On two passenger manifests traveling with her son John. First passenger list has her going from Sydney to Hawaii arriving Jul 21 1916. Second is from Havana to Tampa arriving Nov 15 1916. Both passenger lists she is listed as Mrs Mary Rachel Douglas.
Mary is also in the 1911 UK census living only a few blocks from them. her son John would eventually head back to Canada, but her other son James Andrew and her would both remain in the UK. Mary died in 1930 in Sussex England, James Andrew died in 1966 in Sussex England. Also, both of her sons American born wives left them and headed back to the states, taking the children with them.
Article can be found on the British Colonist website. A full page about James and Amelia Douglas and their children (titled The Governor's thirteen children), and it is dated June 3 1979.
This one is certainly challenging. Don't think she is buried at Ross Bay - there's not a marker for her on the Douglas Family plot - nor on the Elliott Family plot where her father & her son John is buried.
Ancestry has a probate record for her that confirms she died 13 Nov 1930 in Brighton, Sussex, England
