As many of you already know, our mother, Carmen Steffen, passed away peacefully early yesterday morning. She confused the hospital staff when stating she wanted to go home.....she meant she wanted to go home with Jesus. Now it is done. She was so very ready and is now at peace and free from pain.
She was not alone even for a moment during these past days in the hospital. I am blessed with the best family and her hospital room was often 'standing room only'. Our last gift to her was the re-telling of happy events and stories, funny things that happened over the years, and things we are grateful for during our upbringing.
This was a woman of incredible personal strength and she endured many difficult times with her sense of humor intact. She was a master quilter, painted many beautiful scenes of the Pacific Northwest, and she would rush to the barn to deliver a newborn calf or colt and then return to her daily activities. All through my childhood, one of my most precious memories is that no matter how little we had at the time, the door to our family home was always open to others in need. So often, we would have other family members living with us for a period of time. Just one small evidence of a christian life.
This was a life well lived and she was much loved. We will miss her greatly.
Many thanks to all who have been a part of her story and many thanks for all the prayers during this most difficult time.
