Phyllis Arlene Keup (Olson) was born November 18, 1924 in Putney, South Dakota to Edward and Eunice Olson. She graduated from high school in Groton, South Dakota and attended Business College in Portland, Oregon.
On March 6, 1944, Phyllis exchanged wedding vows with Alfred R. Keup. Together, the couple raised their four children, Karon, Arlen, Rodney and Joanne.
Phyllis had many jobs during her lifetime. She worked in post offices, school cafeterias and for Oregon Auto Insurance. She ultimately found herself as a data entry clerk with Oeco Corporation in Portland, where she retired.
Phyllis was a woman of strong faith, and she taught Sunday school and Vacation Bible School. She enjoyed church activities, and was an active member of both Martha's Circle and the Lutheran Women's Missionary League.
Phyllis passed away March 19, 2015 with her loving family by her side. A memorial service will be held in the church she loved, Ascension Lutheran Church, 1440 SE 182nd Ave., Portland, OR at 11:00am, Saturday, March 28, 2015. Inurnment will be with her beloved husband Alfred in Willamette National Cemetery.
Phyllis is survived by her children, Karon Lynn Keup, Arlen Edward Keup and Joanne Beth Keup; sisters, Shirley Newman and Beverly Thomsen; six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Alfred and her son, Rodney Lee Keup.
It was in Phyllis' prayers that the congregation of Ascension Lutheran would grow and stay steadfast in faith. She also prayed that the building would be expanded.
In lieu of flowers, Phyllis' family suggests donations in her name to the Ascension Lutheran Church Building Fund.
