Peter Hansen Thielen, 74, of Marinette, WI passed away on Monday, January 18, 2016, at home. He was born to the late Lester and Myra (Hansen) Thielen in Kenosha on November 19, 1941, and moved to Marinette as an infant.

Peter attended St. Anthony grade school and graduated from Marinette High School in 1960. In 1970, he was awarded a BSBA in Industrial Management from Weidner University. Peter worked for Scott Paper for 31 years in various positions including Safety Manager and Facilities Manager; he later worked for Amerisafe, Inc. as a Field Safety Professional for 10 years, retiring in 2006.

On August 1, 1992, Peter married Mary Norell at St. James Lutheran Church.

He was proud of his 33 years of service on the Marinette Police and Fire Commission, having served as President for over 20 years. He took his roll very seriously and personally. He thought of the members of the police and fire departments as extended family; they were always in his thoughts and prayers. He also served on the Emergency Rescue Squad for 31 years, first as a responder and later as a member and VP of the Board of Directors. He was active in local, regional, and national safety organizations and served on several local advisory boards and committees. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church and the Moose and Elks Lodges. He enjoyed camping, visiting the Sault Locks, and watching freighters on the Great Lakes.

Peter is survived by his wife of 23 years, Mary Thielen, of Marinette;
two sons: Pete Thielen of Appleton, WI and Brett (Rebecca) Norell of Manitowoc, WI;
