Actor. Born Francis Finlay, he was an actor in film, television, and on the stage. Early in his life he trained as a butcher, but later went into acting after graduating from the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art. He performed in various theatrical productions over the years and was associated with the National Theater during his stage career. He also had a lengthy career in both film and television, with film credits including "Othello" (1965), "The Three Musketeers" (1973), "Murder By Decree" (1979), "The Pianist" (2002), and "Lifeforce" (1985). His television credits include appearances in such series as "Target Luna", "Armchair Theater", Bouquet of Barbed Wire", "Lovejoy", and "How Do You Want Me?". He received various award nominations throughout his career including in 1966 when he received a "Best Supporting Actor" Academy Award nomination for his role in "Othello" and in 1974 when he won a BAFTA TV award for "Best Actor". In 1984 he was made a "Commander of the Order of the British Empire".
