Minnie Whitehead Smith, 95, of Darling, died Sunday, November 29, 1994, at Northwest Mississippi Regional Medical Center in Clarksdale. Services were at 12:00 noon on Sunday, December 4, at Pilgrim Rest United Methodist Church at Squirrel Lake with burial in Squirrel Lake Cemetery. Rev. Marvin Gipson officiated and Marks Burial had charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Smith was born to Bennie and Martha Whitehead on June 1, 1899. She was converted, baptized and became a servant of God at a very early age. Working through her, God granted six children to be reared. She and her husband, Ira, who died in 1975, took on that challenge and did a wonderful job.
After moving to Darling in 1935, she united with Pilgrim Rest United Methodist Church where she served in many capacities until her health began to fail.
"Aunt Minnie" will be remembered by loved ones and all who knew her as a kind, loving, sharing, and honest person.
She leaves to cherish good memories, four children, Samuel Smith, Beverly Richardson, Patricia Richardson, and Victor Richardson; one stepdaughter, Laura Mitchell; one stepson, John Walter Richardson; two sisters-in-law, Rebecca and Polly Whitehead; two notably good friends and neighbors, Maxie Brice and Hattie Lee White; twenty-two grandchildren; twenty-five great-grandchildren, a host of nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.
