Donald T. Carlson, age 86, a Manitowoc resident, died on February 1, 2016 at the Manitowoc Health and Rehabilitation Center, surrounded by his daughters.

Donald was born on March 16, 1929 in Eau Claire, WI, son of the late Thomas and Hazel E. (Everson) Carlson. He grew up on many farms in Eau Claire, Augusta and Fairchild, WI. In 1948 he enlisted in the U.S. Army and served during the Korean Conflict, where he was wounded in action and was awarded a purple heart. His last military assignment was in 1951 and continued to work for the US Army from 1959 until 1968. Donald moved to Manitowoc and married the former Delores M. (Babich) Thompson on April 22, 1961. In 1968 he began working for Westinghouse Electric Corp. in the Steam Service Division at the Point Beach Nuclear Power Plant. Over the years he also helped out at Kewaunee Nuclear Power Plant, the Ottertail Power Co. and the Byron Nuclear Plant. He retired as the Chief Clerk, being responsible for all office operations including payroll. Donald also had a special love for his animals: Tonka, Marly, Maddie and Lady.

Survivors include his eight children: Lee Thompson, Manitowoc, Cathy Stegemann, Las Cruses, NM; Tom (Pinky) Thompson, Goodyear, AZ, Connie Jo, Shorewood, Jerry Thompson, Chicago, IL, Pete (Mala) Thompson, Madison, AL, Heidi (Steve) Rosinsky, Manitowoc, and Gina (John) Lambert, Manitowoc; 30 grandchildren; 25 great grandchildren; four sisters: Audrey Totton, Shirley Christopherson, Mary (Jan) Link, Lois Pichler; and one brother: Jim Carlson. Many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends also survive. He was also preceded in death by his wife: Delores Carlson; one son-in-law: Ivan Stegemann; two daughters-in-law: Kazuko Thompson and Susan Thompson; one brother: George Carlson; and three brothers-in-law: Al Totton, Paul Christopherson and Bud Pichler.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 6, 2016 at the Pfeffer Funeral Home, Manitowoc. Officiating at the service will be Ruthann Ross with entombment to follow at Knollwood Mausoleum, town of Kossuth where military honors will be accorded by the AMVETS Post 99.
