July 23, 1922 - Jan. 31, 2016 Ann Steele Cren, 93, lifelong resident of Ensley, died Sunday, January 31, 2016. Ann was preceded in death by her loving husband John T Cren, parents Lillie Belle Turner Steele and Robert Young Steele, sisters Audrey Lee Box, Sarah S. Ellingson, and Mary B Kitchens, brothers Turner Young Steele and Robert Ray Steele. Ann spent her long working career, over 40 years, with Tennessee Coal & Iron (U.S. Steel). Ann with her husband Johnny owned a number of small businesses in the Ensley area, including J and A Car Wash and The Big Record store at Five Points West. Ann is survived by her nephews Robert (Deb) Ellingson, Chester (Sharon) Ellingson, her nieces Carol (Richard Bend) Ellingson, and Thelma Young Steele, great-nieces Kari (Mitch) Craft, and Jenny (Denny) Harms, great-great nephew Brooks Craft, and great-great niece Cora Harms, who happened to inherit Ann's beautiful blue eyes. We will remember Ann as fun waiting to happen and always blessing our hearts. She adored her nieces and nephews and gave us all the sense that we were the most darling children who ever lived. The memories of Ann and Johnny singing together to the latest hit on the radio and dancing together in the kitchen are indelible and will be missed by all. The family will receive friends on Saturday, February 13, 2016 from 10:00 to 11:00 am with graveside service immediately following at Elmwood Cemetery.
