He was born March 17, 1931, the son of Benjamin and Clara Huffer Umberger.
He was a graduate of Royerton High School and taught Industrial Arts at Pendleton Heights High School as Director of Building Trades.
He was a US Air Force veteran with the rank of Sargent.
He was a member of the Optimist club and was an avid Farmall Tractor enthusiast.
He was preceded in death by his parents, 1st wife: Nancy and 2nd wife Janet, Brothers: Charles Harold and Robert and one sister: Liz.
He is survived by his children: Debbie (J.P,) Phillips of Daleville and Jeff Umberger of Chesterfield, 2 grandchildren: Courtney Atak (Isik) of Ismer, Turkey and Paul Phillips (Casey) of Pendleton, 1 brother: Wilbur Umberger (Barbara) of Muncie, sister-in-laws: Joan and Violetta Umberger of Muncie, step children: Angela King (Greg) of Michigan, Wendy Carpenter (Dustin) of Yorktown and Kristy Beach (Brian) of Indianapolis, several nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of his life will be held at 4:00 PM Friday at the Daleville United Methodist Church with Pastor Glenn Perkins officiating.
Friends may gather at the church from 2:00 PM until the time of the service at the church.
