Congressman. He attended Princeton College from 1838 to 1840 and became active in local government. He was elected to Congress as Whig in 1850 and served a single term, 1851 to 1853. He returned to Staten Island and resumed his involvement in local government, including serving as Quarantine Commissioner from 1857 to 1859. He became a Republican when the party was founded and was a Presidential elector in 1864.
