Linda received her Master’s Degree in Education from The Ohio State University in 1987. She was a life-long learner and continued to take correspondence courses and in-service training. Linda attended the Ohio Historical Society’s Oral History Institute at Kenyon College.
Most recently, Linda served as the Office Manager of H.C. Bland Realty Company. For more than 10 years, she was a Sylvan Learning Center Tutor for reading, math and study skills. She worked as a Production Editor for Glencoe McGraw-Hill for four years and as an Assistant Editor at Merrill Publishing Language Arts. Linda also had more than 40 years of teaching experience in large and small groups. She has taught elementary school children in the Lima, Mansfield, Toledo and Columbus Public School Systems.
Linda’s civic and community activities were extensive. She was an extremely active member of Shiloh Baptist Church and was honored in 2011 for her massive commitment and contribution. Linda was a proud and active Legacy member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. for over 50 years and recently became a Golden Soror. She served as president of the The Ohio State University Torch Club and later became a regional director for the International Association of Torch Clubs, Inc. Recently, she was named as president of the Beta Lambda Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma Society International and her term was to begin in June.
She was also a member of the Central and Southern Ohio Community Choir; past board member of the New Columbus Boychoir; Past Chairman of the EBJ Scholarship Fund and Past President of the Torch Club. She participated in the New Beginnings Book Club and was involved with the Angel Tree Prison Ministry and the Donald Greene Ministry’s Lunch Bag Warriors Project, all while assisting with her mother and father’s care.
Let it be known that Linda Bland Jefferson, as daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, cousin and friend, richly impacted her family, church, community and profession with distinction and will not be forgotten as a virtuous woman of faith. Linda’s radiant smile generated love and kindness to all she came in contact with and she will be deeply missed.
Linda was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene B. Jefferson and parents Henry C. Bland, Jr. and Geneva Ferguson Bland.
She leaves to cherish her loving memory, children: Attorney Richard Jefferson (Katrina) and Janine Jefferson (John) Moore; four grandchildren,: John Douglas III (JD) and Justin David Moore, and Noah Eugene and Xachary William Jefferson; her younger brother: Henry C. (Theresa) Bland III, along her nephews: Atiba Bland and Attorney Tayo (Shanna) Bland, Aunt Laureen Dean, a host of cousins, including: Barbara (Dale) Harden, Ellen (Martin) Williams, George (Dina) Dean, Carol Bouldin, Lorna Hawkins Swift, along with many family members and friends across the country.
