Charles was the son of Joseph Hess and Rosa Rowzie. About 1909 he married Viola Cundiff and they had three children: Anna, Lorena and Charles. He was a former employee of Liggett & Myers Tobacco Company. Charles died of bronchopneumonia at General Hospital at the age of 72.
