Country Music Singer. She was born Joey Marie Martin in Alexandria, Indiana to Jack and June Martin. She was the 4th child of 5 children; 3 sisters (Jody, Julie and Jessie) and one younger brother Justin, who in 1994 passed in a car accident close to the Martin family farm. She moved to Nashville, TN in 1998 to pursue a career as an assistant at a horse vet clinic. At a songwriter night, she met songwriter Rory Lee Feek whom she married in 2002. She began with a solo career, releasing the album "Strong Enough to Cry" in 2005. However, as time went by, she and her husband worked together more. In 2008, they performed on the Country Music Television show "Can You Duet?" where they came in third place and earned them a recording contract with Sugar Hill Records. Joey + Rory released their first album, "The Life of a Song," in 2008, which peaked at Number 10 on the Billboard's Top Country Album chart. Their musical success won them the Academy of Country Music Award for Top New Vocal Duo in 2010. All seven of their albums were commercially successful, including their last one, "Hymns That Are Important to Us," which was released in February of 2016. It was their highest-charting album, selling 68,000 copies in the first week. She and Rory made up the country music duo "Joey + Rory." Their daughter Indiana was born at home on February 17, 2014 surrounded by midwives, Rory, her sisters and Grandma June. In late May of 2014, She was diagnosed with cervical cancer. After surgery and treatment, she was declared cancer free. In June of 2015, the cancer returned and had metastasized to her colon. In October of 2015, the cancer had become terminal and treatment was discontinued. She was able to celebrate Indiana's 2nd birthday and Valentine's Day with Rory in 2016. She passed away March 4, 2016. Rory held a private funeral on their farm in Tennessee, and she was buried in the family cemetery on the Feek farm.
