Harry's parents were Harry T. Kabbes and Helen Kettman Kabbes of Mattoon IL. Harry graduated from the University of Illinois, #1 in the School of Engineering. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He married Elise Doepel in 1951 and they had four children: John (1952), Martha (1953), Peggy (1957) and Mark (1960). Harry was a civil engineer and project leader for Amoco Oil Company. He and Elise built a home in Flossmoor IL in 1956 where he lived until his death.
