Danish queen. She was a princess of Holstein of the House of Schaumburg and became Queen of Denmark after she married future King Abel in 1232. They had three sons and one daughter. After his death she had to leave Denmark and spent some time as a cloistered nun before she for political reasons married the great Duke Birger (Jarl) of Sweden in his second marriage, which was childless. She then also held the title Duchess of Sweden. Her politics were essentially aimed at trying to help her sons in continued claims to the Danish throne and release from incarceration. She was also instrumental to her native Holstein's independent relationship to Denmark, which earned her a bad reputation among the Danes. After her second husband's death in 1266 she resided in Kiel but her body was brought back to Sweden for burial next to Birger and one of his sons. A richly decorated leather case for a crown has been attributed to her.
