Mary Joyce Bacon, age 85 of Knoxville, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family, Thursday morning, March 17, 2016. She was a member of Cathedral of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, Saint Michael's Guild, The Ladies of Charity, The University of Tennessee Hospital Auxiliary staff, a hospice volunteer, a Golden Clogger, the American Contract Bridge League and the Cherokee Garden Club. Joyce was preceded in death by her beloved first husband, Warren Smith; second husband, Walter J. Bacon; parents, Halpin and Mary Frances Phelan and dear brother, William Phelan. Joyce is survived by her loving sons, and daughters-in-law, Stephen Smith of Waukesha, WI, Kevin and Marilyn Smith of Hendersonville, NC, Brian and Celia Smith of Charlotte, NC and Barry Smith of Knoxville, TN; grandchildren, Shauna Sibila, Amy Tyson, Timothy Smith, Maureen Bethea, Madeline Smith, Anderson Smith and Hailey Meadows; great-grandchildren, Hayden, William, Everly and Grant. A celebration Mass will be held 1:00 PM Saturday, April 2, 2016 at Sacred Heart Cathedral with Reverend Father Joe Reed and Deacon Joel Livingston officiating. Interment will be private. A reception will follow the Mass service from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM at the Buckingham Club House. The family request that in lieu of flowers, please make memorial donations to The Ladies of Charity, 120 W.
