A graduate of the University of Wisconsin-Madison, Jean met Fred “Fritz” Jaeger, Jr. while they were both college students there. They later were married on September 9, 1950, just before Fritz left for military service. Jean moved to Marinette and upon Fritz’s return, they decided to make their permanent home here. Jean began a life devoted to her husband and love of family as it expanded to include grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She took pleasure in living along the Menominee River, enjoying nature in sunshine, plants, especially orchids and watching cardinals. Jean was known as an avid reader and also pursued her interests in handwork, knitting and quilting. Over the years, within the family, there were many expressions of guidance Jean was known for, including her famous “knockers up” directive, advising her children to stand tall in adversity.
Jean is survived by her children and their families: Betsy Jaeger;
Penny (Steve) Sanders and daughter, Lindsay;
Lori (Ryan) Hmielewski and children: Scott (Linda), Kristin (Peter) Kolaszewski and Jeff (Mariah);
Fritz III (Marybeth) and children: Fritz IV (Suzie), Amanda (Chad) Keuseman and Aaron;
and Barbara (Wayne) Kopish and children: Brian, Betsey (Randy) Johnson and Tori;
as well as 16 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Fritz, Jr.
In keeping with Jean’s wishes, a private family memorial service will be held. She will be interred next to her husband at Forest Home Cemetery in Marinette.
