Robert "Bob" McAfee Davis

Retired marine contractor, passed away on December 13, 2002 after a lengthy illness at age 82. He was born in Plainview, Texas September 13, 1920, the youngest of 11 children to Thomas Davis and Lulu McCleary. Mr. Davis was a resident of Corpus Christi for 52 years and enjoyed spending time at his retreat near George West. He was a U.S. Marine veteran of 19 1/2 years, giving up a scholarship to Texas A & M University to join the corps in 1938. Mr. Davis trained as a glider pilot at Ft. Worth, Texas and served as a navigator in the air wing during the Pacific Campaign of World War II, serving three tours of duty overseas. The remainder of his service was in the reserves before retiring. He attended North Texas Agricultural College, Texas Christian University, and Louisiana State Normal College, at Natchitoches, Louisiana for two years where he majored in mathematics and met his bride of 58 years. Mr. Davis was employed with Brown and Root, Inc. for 30 years as Regional Manager, during which time he oversaw the construction of the Shell Oil North Sea Modular Platform at Ingleside. He was Vice President of marine construction at Bay Inc. for 15 years before retiring. He was a member of the Corpus Christi Rotary for 20 years.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Charlotte; his parents, five brothers and five sisters.

He is survived by his wife, Lucile McSherry Davis; his son, Jimmy Davis; of Kenai, Alaska; a daughter, Patricia (Kenneth) Cupp of Mt. Vernon, Texas; three grandchildren: Chandra (Cameron) Senek of Manitoba, Canada, Keri Lynne Cupp and Trevor Cupp of Mt. Vernon, Texas and one great granddaughter, Chloe Anne Cupp-Hicken, also of Mt. Vernon, numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Monday, December 16, 2002 at 1:00 P.M. in the chapel at Seaside Memorial Park and Funeral Home. Visitation is from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. Sunday evening, December 15, 2002.
