Comedian. Born Ronald Balfour Corbett in Edinburgh, Scotland, the son of Anne Elizabeth Main and William Balfour Corbett, master baker. He began acting at 15, when he starred in a pantomime at his local youth club. He served his national service with the Royal Air Force, and at only 5 feet 1 inch tall, he was the shortest commissioned officer in the British Armed Forces. His career breakthrough came about when David Frost spotted him in cabaret at a nightclub. He was invited to appear in 'The Frost Report' where he met Ronnie Barker and John Cleese. In 1971, he and Barker stepped up during a technical difficulty at the BAFTAs and kept the audience entertained with eight minutes of unscripted comedy. It was on the strength of that impromptu performance that the pair, were offered their own show: 'The Two Ronnies.' 'The Two Ronnies' ran from 1971 to 1987 and always began with the pair reading mock news headlines. The program made both men household names. He later starred in the sitcom 'Sorry!' between 1981 and 1988, and hosted the BBC1 game show 'Small Talk' from 1994 to 1996. In 1996, he appeared on the premiere of the short-lived BBC game show 'Full Swing,' and then played in the film 'Fierce Creatures' (1997), written by John Cleese. He would also appear on the BBC Radio 4 show 'When the Dog Dies.' In 2005 he briefly reunited on screen with Barker for a series called 'The Two Ronnies Sketchbook.' Barker died later that same year. At the age 80, Corbett made a two-part series called 'Ronnie Corbett’s Comedy Britain.' In February 2010, he appeared in the film 'Burke & Hare.' He and his wife celebrated their golden wedding anniversary in 2015. He was created an Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) for his services to entertainment, and later promoted to Commander of the Order of the British Empire {CBE} in 2012.
