Julia Carolyn Ramsey Sieglitz-Burke, 86, of Madison, formerly of Vevay, died Sunday, April 3, 2016, at her residence.

She was born Dec. 3, 1929, in Westport, to H.G. and Catherine Jane Ennis Ramsey. She was a 1947 graduate of Rockport High School and attended Lockyear’s Business College in Evansville. She moved from Tell City to Vevay in July 1953, when her father became the minister at the Reuter Chapel United Methodist Church. She was employed as office manager for the U.S. Shoe Factory in Vevay from 1953 to 1954. She worked for a short time for the newspaper office in Vevay in 1964. She also worked at the Madison State Hospital from 1965 to 1967, and then at the Markland Locks and Dam from 1967 to 1977. She owned and operated The Yoke on Main Street in Vevay. She moved to Madison and then to Hanover. She later moved to Quitman, Ga. with her daughter, and owned and operated Mallory Manor Bed & Breakfast from 1993 to 1994. She returned to Madison and owned and operated Happy Valley Country Inn Bed & Breakfast for several years. She cared for her parents when they returned to Vevay. She was a member of the First Baptist Church. She taught piano lessons for approximately 50 years and played the organ for several churches in Vevay and Madison for several years. She enjoyed collecting antiques and family heirlooms. She was also a seamstress and enjoyed knitting, gardening, violets, caring for her home and lawn, and arts and crafts. She also enjoyed making dolls and doll clothing, and collecting dolls. She was awaiting the birth of two great-grandchildren.

She is survived by three daughters, Cynthia Griffith of Pleasant, Deborah Crawford of Brunswick, Ga. and Paula Jo Rand of Milton, Ky.; 12 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Robert Shrode, whom she married in January 1948; her second husband, Paul V. Sieglitz, whom she married April 18, 1954, and who died March 12, 1983; her third husband, Myers V. Burke, whom she married Sept. 4, 1970, and who died Jan. 3, 1987; two sons, Joe Vernon Sieglitz, who died April 1956 and James Ramsey Shrode, who died in October 1986; two daughters, Sara Lynn Sieglitz, who died in February 1963 and Laura C. Sieglitz Smith, who died April 28, 1991; her parents; and one sister, Marilyn Kreisle.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Haskell & Morrison Funeral Home in Vevay. Burial will be in Vevay Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home Tuesday from 5 to 8 p.m.
