Matthew Jay Sherman, 56, passed away Friday, April 8, 2016, at his residence near Coldwater, KS. Born January 12, 1960 in Wichita, KS, he was the son of Norman Dean and Mary R. (Menoher) Sherman. Jay was a lifetime resident of the Coldwater, KS area. He graduated from Coldwater High School in 1978 and was proud to be an Eagle. He attended Kansas State University and was a member of Delta Tau Delta Fraternity. He was a member of Coldwater United Methodist Church; Past-President of Coldwater Country Club; Past-President of Comanche County Farm Bureau; and a member of Coldwater Masonic Lodge. He was the manager of Coldwater Farmers’ Co-op and was co-owner and operator of S & S Dairy and Farms with his father, Norman. Jay was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was a private pilot and soloed on his 16th birthday. He liked to travel and enjoyed scuba diving and golfing. On April 11, 1981, he married Lori Garten in Medicine Lodge, KS. She survives.

He is survived by his wife: Lori Sherman of Coldwater, KS; his mother: Mary Sherman of Coldwater, KS; one daughter: Kara Rath (Jason) of Larned, KS; one son: Zachary Sherman (Josh Nemechek) of Lawrence, KS; one brother: Chris Sherman (Karin) and children, Lachlan and Celeste of South Lake, TX; and two grandchildren: Brynn Maddox Sherman and Jayden William Rath.

He was preceded in death by his father: Norman Sherman.

Friends may call from 1:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Monday, April 11, 2016, at Hatfield-Prusa Funeral Home, Coldwater, KS.

Funeral service is at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, April 12, 2016, at the United Methodist Church in Coldwater, KS, with Pastor Juan Espinoza and Rev. Kent Little presiding. Burial will be in Crown Hill Cemetery, Coldwater, KS.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Coldwater Country Club, South Wind Hospice, or Cancer Center of Kansas in care of Hatfield-Prusa Funeral Home, P.O. Box 417, Coldwater, KS
