ST. JOHN, IN Helen P. Wojciehowski (nee Chmielewski), age 77, of St. John, formerly of Hammond, passed away Sunday, October 13, 2013. She is survived by four children: Jeanette (Richard) Glaser, Sharon (Roque III) Ybarra, Richard Wojciehowski, and Roberta (Edward) Garcia; eight grandchildren: April (Jerry) Mittlestaedt, Roque C. Ybarra, Benjamin (Genevieve) Ybarra, Stacey and Bryan Glaser, Alyssa, Erik, and Madeline Garcia; four great grandchildren: Nathalia and Audrey Mittlestaedt, Christopher Glaser, and Carter Ybarra; one sister, Grace (Ruben) Altamarino; one brother, Harry (Frieda) Chmielewski; many nieces and nephews; and her beloved dog, Lily. Preceded in death by her husband, Walter; daughter, Joyce Ann; sister, Dorothy Chmielewski; brother, Frank Chmielewski; and parents: Adam and Helen Chmielewski. Funeral services will be held Friday, October 18, 2013 at 9:30 a.m. at the Anthony & Dziadowicz Funeral Home, 4404 Cameron Ave., Hammond, IN (two blocks E. of Hohman, one block N. of Gostlin) for 10:00 a.m. Mass at St. Casimir Church with Rev. William O’Toole officiating. Burial at Holy Cross Cemetery, Calumet City, IL. Visitation on Thursday from 2:00-8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Mrs. Wojciehowski was a Hammond resident for over 50 years. She was a retired employee of Continental Bakery (Hostess Cake division). Helen was a 1954 graduate of George Rogers Clark High School and was a member of the St. Casimir Ladies Rosary Society. She enjoyed sewing and spending time with her grandkids. Her Catholic faith was a defining part of who she was. Helen was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother who will be deeply missed.
