Ralph Christian "Buddy" Elsbernd, Sr. was born July 25, 1950, the first-born child of Ralph Albert Elsbernd and Ruth Ann Stauber Elsbernd, in Cincinnati, Hamilton County, Ohio. He was named for his father and maternal grandfather. He had four siblings. His baby sister Mary predeceased him. After a brief marriage to Linda Susan Vogelsang Elsbernd in 1974, he married Deborah Sue Hanselman Elsbernd in 1976, and they had one child, Ralph Christian "R. C." Elsbernd, Jr., who shared his father's love of motorcycles. In 1999 he married Ellen "Ellie" Waugh Elsbernd who survives him.
Buddy served in the air force during Vietnam. He loved dogs, fishing, motorcycles, and Xavier University basketball. He enjoyed going on long trips including the "Big Boys' Ride" to California in his Austin Healey.
Buddy died of cancer at age 65 on April 9, 2016 in Cincinnati. His funeral was at Saint Veronica Catholic Church in Cincinnati. Burial is near his wife's Waugh family at Holy Trinity Catholic Church Cemetery in Somerset, Perry County, Ohio. He is survived by his wife, son, many family members, and beloved dogs, Lily and Perry.
