James, the son of Hector J. Healey and Mari-Lou Healy, dear brother of Joan, Judy, and Jack of Northbrook Illinois. James was born while his father was serving in the Navy in WWII onboard the USS Alabama. He enlisted in the US Marine Corps on May 5, 1966 in Chicago and in Vietnam he was assigned to and served with Company H, 2d Battalion, 26th Marines, 3d MARDIV (Rein) FMF.

During the month of November the 2d Battalion continued to participate in Operation PAWNEE III in Thua Tien Province. Units of the Battalion maintained their defensive positions conducting search and destroy operations and night ambushes.

On November 3, during a patrol approximately 1 kilometer south of Nui Da Kea the Marines were hit with a large volume of enemy small arms fire. PFC Healy was struck and killed by enemy rifle fire.
Mass for Marine Pfc. James [Jay] Healey, 22, of 3674 Oak av., Northbrook, will be said in St. Norbert's church, 1809 Walters st., Northbrook. He was killed in Viet Nam Nov. 3, less than three weeks after arriving there. Pfc. Healey enlisted in the marines May 5. Healey was an apprentice electrician working with his father prior to his enlistment last May 5. He leaves his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Hector Healey; a brother, Jack; and two sisters, Joan and Judy.

He is the son of Mr. Herter J. & Mrs. Mari Lou Healey of 3674 Oak Street, Northbrook, Illinois, and is a 1962 graduate of Northbrook Community H.S., and he enlisted with the Marines in Chicago on May 5, 1966.

Awards: Purple Heart Medal, Combat Action Ribbon, Vietnam Service Medal with Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, National Defense Service Medal.
