Annette Chestnut, affectionately known as “Sug”, went home to rest on Wednesday April 6, 2016 at the glorious age of 95 years. She was born to the union of Willie and Virginia Lawrence in Graceville, Florida on December 14, 1920.

Annette gave her life to Christ and was baptized at an early age. She was the youngest and only girl of four children but was able to keep up with her three brothers in the fields. As a young adult, she entered into Cosmetology School in Tampa, Florida and became a licensed beautician.

In 1954, Annette moved to Bayside, New York to be with family and a change in occupation. She raised her four children in a lovely home along with her grandchildren.

Sug moved to Columbus, Ohio in December 1977 and was united with Mt. Olivet Baptist Church on May 6, 1979. She was a member of the Willing Workers Ministry and enjoyed hearing Pastor Booth preach. The last sermon that she heard was the Communion Table Talk, “I’ll Do It!” She loved and worshiped the Lord until He called her home.

Annette was a beloved mother and grandmother who spent most of her life caring for others and had a passion for cooking and baking. When she was in her groove, she played her Motown records and danced while she cooked. She always believed in doing everything right the first time so you would not have to go over it again.

She is preceded in death by her parents Willie and Virginia Lawrence; brothers, Henry, Eugene, and Melvin Lawrence.

Annette is survived by her children; Dorothy (Robert) Harrell, Charles Chestnut, James (Donna) Chestnut, and Sheryl (Scott) Thorne; grandchildren; Cynthia Hill, Dorinda Chestnut-Conner, Roberta Harrell, Denise Chestnut, Lerlene Walker, Virgil (Jackie)Harrell, Lisa Chapman, Maurice Harrell, Vershann Stewart, James Chestnut Jr., and Marcus Thorne; great-grandchildren; Jonathan (Ebony) Conner, Nicole Thorton, Craig Hatcher, Justin Chapman, Shannon Harrell, Marilyn Harrell, Christopher Harrell, Sidney Harrell; great-great-grandchildren; Alex Hatcher, Victoria Chapman, Mi’Yonna Smith, Keira Thorton, Aaleyah Thorne, Christian Thorton, Joshua Conner, Sarai Acevedo, Imani Conner; sister-in-law Johnnie Ruth Cyrus; daughter-in-laws; Rose Chestnut and Toni Fenton and a host of other close relatives and friends.
