Father of Australian Prime Minister, John Curtin. Son of John Curtin and Mary Hanlon, born in Kilpadder, Kilshannig, County Cork. He served with the British Army in India, before following his brother to Australia in 1880, and securing a position with the Victorian Police Service (1881-1890), stationed at Creswick. He married Catherine Bourke on Jun. 6, 1883, at St Patrick's Cathedral, Melbourne.
