William Case Osmun was the son of Ziba Osmun and Susanna "Susan" (Case) Osmun; and the grandson of John Osmun and Mary (Smith?) Osmun. William's parents were married December 18, 1814 at the Greenwich Presbyterian Church; he was an only child.

Private, Company C, 31st Regiment, New Jersey Volunteer Infantry, Union Army, Civil War; Bet. September 17, 1862 - June 24, 1863.

William's great uncle was (Colonel) Benajah Osmun, who was a member of the Society of the Cincinnati. (Colonel) Benajah Osmun was eventually represented in the Society of the Cincinnati by his grandnephew, William Case Osmun (1822-1902), who was admitted to the membership on July 4, 1887.

At the age of 80, he was described as being a tall man, with slightly gray hair, who always wore the regulation cap of the Jersey Central Railroad Lines. He was a member and regular attendant of Trinity Reformed Church. He was born in Bethlehem Township, Hunterdon County, New Jersey, near Asbury.
