During her 28 year career as an Air Force wife, Mary was often required to dismantle her home many times. Although she dreaded moving, she never complained, and she loved the adventure of exploring each new home. She especially loved England, Munich, Florence and Venice. Mary also enjoyed visiting Budapest and Istanbul and considered the two years that she spent in Bucharest to be the best of the 28 Air Force years.
She made lifelong friends wherever she lived.
After settling in Springfield, Mary discovered that she delighted in a more settled lifestyle. She worked very hard to transform her home and property into a beautifully serene haven with many trees and beautiful flower beds in a park-like setting of her own design. Mary delighted in contact with her children and grandchildren who all lived nearby for a few years. Most who knew her can relate amusing stories about her many beloved grandchildren.
In her later years, Mary was often seen at the Meyer Fitness Center participating in water, aerobic and strengthening exercises. She loved the people that she met there.
Mary was born in Dardanelle, AR on December 11, 1940, to W.T. "Buck" Madison and Bonnie Estelle (Smith) Madison. She moved with her family to Pemiscot County, MO in 1950 and graduated from the Wardell (MO) High School in 1958.
She and her husband-to-be dated there and were married on December 26, 1960, when he was an undergraduate at the University of Missouri-Columbia. Their beautiful and abiding love was wonderful to see.
