Hall of Fame Professional Football Player. For fifteen seasons (1963 to 1977), he played at the offensive tackle position in the American and National Football Leagues with the New York Jets and Los Angeles Rams. Born Winston Cordell Hill, he attended Weldon High School in Texas. He played collegiate football at Texas Southern University and while with the Tigers, he earned All-Southwestern Athletic Conference recognition three-times as he established himself as one of the school's all time greats. Selected by the Baltimore Colts during the 11th round of the 1963 NFL Draft, he failed to make the teams and would sign with the New York Jets. During the course of his career, Hill provided crucial blocking for Joe Namath and was a contributor to the Jets' capturing of the World Championship in January 1969 (Super Bowl III). Individually, he earned All-Star/Pro-Bowl honors eight-times and played in 198 career regular season games and held the remarkable distinction of playing in 197 games consecutively. After retiring as a player, he served as a scout. During the 1990s, he operated a barbecue establishment. Hill was named to the New York Jets Ring of Honor and is regarded by many as being worthy of enshrinement into the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Update: Hill was posthumously inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2020.
